Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about a pivotal moment in his rise to fame that nearly shattered him emotionally.

In a candid YouTube interview shared this week, the multi-award-winning artist recalled a shocking incident from his early days in the spotlight that tested his mental resilience.

The “Unavailable” crooner revealed this happened merely two months after his career breakthrough when he traveled to Ghana for one of his first international shows.

Davido explained that at this stage, he had only dropped a handful of tracks, which unexpectedly became continental anthems overnight. He humorously compared this to releasing just one or two songs that somehow became career-defining hits.

Describing the surreal experience, he painted a vivid picture of the overwhelming reception he received upon arrival, noting how the frenzy surrounding him rivaled that of entertainment legends. This electric energy, he admitted, made him feel he was truly stepping into superstardom.

He recounted watching his records climb charts weekly, each achievement more thrilling than the last. The sudden influx of female attention, he confessed, was particularly startling for the then-young artist navigating newfound fame.

Davido went on to share that during this Ghanaian trip, after performing at a club, he had a private encounter with a woman – his first such experience with a fan. The morning after brought a harsh awakening when his manager delivered disturbing news.

According to his account, the woman had taken secret photographs of him while he slept to prove their encounter to doubtful friends. Before he knew it, the compromising images had spread like wildfire, triggering frantic calls from concerned family members.

The emotional toll was crushing. The artist admitted that in that vulnerable moment, the weight of public scrutiny felt unbearable to his younger self. He reflected that the episode, while painful, served as divine intervention to check his lifestyle at the time.

Now wiser, Davido offered sober advice to young celebrities: fame makes you a target, and even in moments of leisure, vigilance is crucial. His recommendation? Always be mindful of personal devices in private spaces.
