Afrobeats superstar Davido has honored the memory of his late peer, the legendary Sound Sultan, in a heartfelt gesture.
Davido included a touching homage to the departed artist in his chart-topping track “10 Kilo,” showcased prominently in its vibrant music video.
Helmed by Director Pink, the visual spectacle featured an emotional montage, blending Sound Sultan’s iconic image with dynamic performances by curvy dancers against a striking backdrop.
“10 Kilo,” Davido’s empowering anthem celebrating fuller figures, draws lyrical parallels to Sound Sultan’s timeless classic “Orobo,” which similarly uplifted plus-size women.
The 2013 remix of “Orobo,” featuring Flavour, became an instant regional phenomenon, dominating charts across Nigeria and West Africa.
Following Sound Sultan’s untimely passing from cancer in July 2021, Nigeria’s music elite—including 2Baba, Burna Boy, Spyro, and Sean Tizzle—have consistently honored his legacy through various tributes.
Widely celebrated as a trailblazer of contemporary Afrobeats, Sound Sultan’s influential catalog—featuring classics like “Jagabantis,” “Natural Something,” and “Very Good Bad Guy”—played a pivotal role in shaping the genre’s global ascent.
