Cristiano Ronaldo’s pursuit of a major title with Al-Nassr suffered a setback as they were defeated by Al Ahli in the Saudi Super Cup on Saturday.
The match finished 2-2 in regular time and was ultimately decided by a penalty shootout.
Ronaldo broke the deadlock with a penalty—his 100th goal for Al-Nassr.
However, Franck Kessie leveled the score for Al-Ahli before the break.
Marcelo Brozović then put Al-Nassr back in front late in the game, but Roger Ibañez struck again to force penalties.
In the shootout, Al-Ahli held their nerve, with Édouard Mendy making a crucial save to tilt the balance.
Mendy denied Abdullah Al-Khaibari’s attempt on Al-Nassr’s fourth penalty, allowing Wenderson Galeno to secure the win—Al-Ahli’s first Super Cup triumph since 2016.
