Popular Nollywood star and businesswoman Aisha Lawal has opened up about how the pandemic became her breakthrough moment—raking in an impressive ₦10 million in less than two weeks during the COVID-19 lockdown.
During a candid chat with Biola Bayo, the actress shut down claims that she received a Venza car from transport leader MC Oluomo, challenging critics to respect her hustle. According to Lawal, she owns a high-end GX 460 SUV and multiple stores—all earned through her hard work.
“Someone—I don’t know if they were high or just spreading falsehood—claimed MC Oluomo gifted me a Venza. Let’s be clear: I respect him for his philanthropy, but I never took any car. Why would I owe anyone an explanation for what I’ve legitimately earned?
“I didn’t bother watching the full video, but I heard that nonsense about ‘Aisha Lawal driving my blue Venza.’
“Please, stop tarnishing my name. I’ve been through struggles—long before owning a GX 460 and my five-storey building,” she fired back.
Reflecting on her pandemic success, she added: “COVID rewrote my story. In just seven to fourteen days, I hit ₦10 million—no handouts, just hustle.”
Lawal also shared gritty details of her rise, recalling how she hustled on night buses to avoid hotel expenses—starting her driving journey at just 16.
She revealed: “By 16, I was behind the wheel. Mask on, cap low—I’d hop on Oshodi-bound buses at night just to save money. No one recognized me back then. Sometimes, I’d even hitch rides on poultry trucks from Aba to Ibadan before my China adventures began.”
The actress also touched on family resistance, admitting her father supported Theatre Arts education—but never knew she’d pursue acting due to stereotypes about the industry.
“My dad endorsed Theatre Arts, but my mum feared the stigma. He died unaware of my acting career—convinced actresses lived scandalous lives,” she confessed.
With raw honesty, she concluded: “Social media love is fake. My highs and lows? They shaped me. As my grandma warned: ‘A rough path means a longer journey.’”
