As reported by PUNCH Sports Extra, Habeeb “Portable” Badmus has alleged that his defeat to Carter Efe during the Chaos in the Ring 4 event in Lagos was a premeditated scheme to prevent organizers from settling the massive bets placed on his win. He insists the fight was prematurely halted despite his capacity to carry on.
“The entire situation was rigged. They staged the outcome because the financial stakes were too high. They targeted me because I was set to triumph. The amount wagered on me—N23 billion—was simply too much for them to cover. The ZaZoo artist claimed, “If I had won, Portable would never be able to repay that sum.”
He also highlighted the inconsistency of the stoppage, pointing out that his condition was no different from his earlier high-profile matches.
“We deserved more time in the ring. Yes, I was breathing heavily, but I did the same against Charles Okocha. Instead of ending it, they should have refreshed me with water so I could continue and defeat him,” he explained.
Portable was handed a unanimous decision loss after all three judges scored the bout 27–30 for Efe after three rounds, halting his winning streak as a celebrity boxing titleholder after previous victories over Speed Darlington and Charles Okocha.
Beyond the match itself, the musician raised monetary issues, demanding what he referred to as his rightful share of the event’s streaming profits.
“The organizers owe me my stream money—an estimated N200 million. I need my payment now to avoid any complications,” he stated.
In related news, Arinze Onwumelu, a Nigerian doctor based in Canada, has publicly urged Portable to undergo a cranial scan, expressing concern that repeated strikes from Efe may have caused internal harm. Onwumelu, who goes by Dr. Zo, noted that Efe landed several blows to Portable’s head in vulnerable spots and recommended an MRI to check for a possible subdural hematoma.
“Anyone close to Portable should ensure he gets a brain scan and an MRI immediately; there’s a risk of arterial damage,” he cautioned, also advising that head protection be mandatory for future exhibition matches.
Despite the defeat and health warnings, Portable found a silver lining, revealing that the birth of his son on the same night overshadowed everything else.
“My wife delivered a healthy baby boy tonight. That means far more to me than any championship belt. You can buy a belt, but you can’t buy my child,” he shared.
