Seyi Law

Renowned Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has publicly retracted his earlier assertion that Nigeria is safer today than it was a decade ago, issuing a heartfelt apology for his controversial remarks.

The entertainer had previously praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for enhancing national security, claiming fewer criminal incidents and more successful operations against bandits compared to past governments led by Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.

During an appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, Seyi Law argued that bombings and violent crimes had declined significantly in recent years—a statement that sparked widespread backlash from Nigerians, particularly those affected by ongoing security challenges.

Facing mounting criticism, the comedian took to Instagram to express remorse, acknowledging the insensitivity of his comments toward victims of kidnapping and other security-related tragedies.

In his emotional apology video, Seyi Law stated, “To my fellow Nigerians, I owe you this and more. No one should lose sleep over safety concerns, and the suffering of one should resonate with all.

“I deeply regret my thoughtless words and sincerely apologize to every individual, family, and community impacted by insecurity.

“While I remain a supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, I urge his administration to redouble efforts in combating crime and restoring peace nationwide.

“May God bless you all and our beloved nation, Nigeria.”
