Popular reality TV personality and humorist, Aderombi Adedayo, better known as DeeOne, has opened up about musician Olu Maintain’s alleged role in damaging Nigeria’s global reputation.
DeeOne shared his thoughts during a candid conversation on the hit podcast, the Echo Room.
While discussing the negative impact of fraudulent activities on Nigeria’s image, the entertainer pointed fingers at Olu Maintain, accusing him of contributing to the nation’s struggles.
He claimed that internet fraud gained societal acceptance after the release of Olu Maintain’s chart-topping track, *Yahooze*.
“Olu Maintain is an incredible artist—I admire his craft—but did you know he’s partly responsible for tarnishing Nigeria’s name?
“Back then, ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ fraud was frowned upon. People involved hid in shame—nobody proudly admitted to it. But after his song glorified it, the narrative changed. Suddenly, it became catchy, even celebrated with its own dance moves.
“Young minds absorbed the message, turning fraud into a misguided career aspiration. Nigeria leads the African diaspora—now, that mindset has spread globally, reinforcing stereotypes that hurt law-abiding Nigerians abroad.”
“If we’re calling out systemic issues today, artists like Olu Maintain must recognize their influence. A hit song can shape culture—but with unintended consequences.”
