Popular Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has openly criticized the use of corporal punishment on children, sharing how his son broke multiple televisions during childhood without facing physical discipline.

During an appearance on a digital talk show, Bovi recounted how his son would hurl objects at the TV screen when angry. Despite the costly destruction, he avoided spanking, emphasizing patience as the child matured.

Instead of punishment, Bovi focused on understanding his child’s emotions, waiting until the boy developed self-awareness and expressed regret naturally.

He admitted that his financial stability enabled him to replace the damaged items, recognizing that economic hardship might influence parents’ reactions differently.

Bovi challenged parents to reconsider whether physical discipline truly teaches lessons or merely vents their own frustrations.
