AY Makun

Nigerian comedy sensation AY Makun recently set social media abuzz with a thought-provoking post about trust, betrayal, and the dangers of opportunistic friendships.

Taking to X, the entertainer cautioned his audience against individuals who masquerade as allies but are quick to exploit misfortune for clout and profit.

His viral statement read: “Stay vigilant against fair-weather companions who weaponize your struggles for social media relevance and financial gain. Many wear friendly masks while hiding malicious intentions. May divine intervention shield us from wolves in sheep’s clothing—their comeuppance always finds its mark.”

The post immediately ignited heated discussions, with one critic resurrecting a fourteen-year-old grievance: “We crossed paths in Surulere during your struggling years—you handed me a business card that connected to an unresponsive assistant. Your current success mirrors the mentorship you received from Alibaba, yet you failed to extend similar opportunities.”

AY swiftly countered these claims, clarifying: “Historical inaccuracies don’t become truths through repetition. In 2008, I operated without assistants while carving my path in comedy. My enduring relationship with industry pioneers like Alibaba remains unblemished by such fabrications.”

The digital debate took a satirical turn when another commentator distilled the exchange: “Moral of the story? Treat unreliable associates like expired pantry items—dispose promptly.”
