Clearlake Capital has completed its full acquisition of Chelsea Football Club, marking the end of Todd Boehly’s tenure as chairman.
In a statement released late Wednesday, the club confirmed that Clearlake’s co-founders, Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, now hold complete control after purchasing Boehly’s and Mark Walter’s remaining shares.
The original consortium—formed in May 2022 after Roman Abramovich’s forced sale—has now transitioned into sole ownership by Clearlake, with Swiss investor Hansjorg Wyss retaining his minority stake.
Chelsea reinforced their commitment to securing titles and sustaining elite-level success in their official announcement.
Manager Xabi Alonso, appointed earlier this summer, described the ownership shift as a pivotal moment for the club, acknowledging Boehly’s role while expressing optimism about the future under Clearlake’s leadership.
Ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Brentford, Alonso praised Eghbali’s hands-on approach, recalling their initial meeting in Madrid where the ambitious vision for Chelsea was first presented.
Despite early challenges, including last season’s 10th-place league finish, the Blues have shown signs of revival this campaign, securing seven points from their first four matches under Alonso’s guidance.
The 2022 takeover initially brought success, including a Conference League and Club World Cup double, but recent struggles prompted the hiring of Alonso to spearhead a long-term rebuild.
