Chelsea has parted ways with head coach Liam Rosenior following a dismal run of five consecutive Premier League defeats without scoring—a historic low not seen since 1912.

Appointed in January on a five-and-a-half-year deal, Rosenior managed just 11 victories across 23 matches in all competitions during his brief tenure at Stamford Bridge.

After Tuesday’s humiliating 3-0 defeat at Brighton, where traveling supporters voiced their frustration, Rosenior labeled the team’s display as “unforgivable” and “below standard.”

The loss further dented Chelsea’s Champions League aspirations, dropping them to seventh in the league standings.

In an official statement, Chelsea acknowledged Rosenior’s professionalism but emphasized the necessity of the decision: “While Liam has upheld the club’s values with integrity, recent performances have not met expectations, leaving us no choice but to act.”

Assistant coach Calum McFarlane will take interim charge for the remainder of the season.

McFarlane previously stepped in following Enzo Maresca’s dismissal in January, overseeing a 1-1 draw against Manchester City and a defeat to Fulham.

Chelsea added, “We are committed to a thorough evaluation to ensure the right long-term leadership is in place.”

Despite struggles in the league, Rosenior guided Chelsea to the FA Cup semi-finals with victories over lower-tier opponents, securing five wins in 13 Premier League fixtures.

McFarlane’s first test comes this Sunday (15:00 BST) as Chelsea face Leeds at Wembley, aiming to secure a spot in the FA Cup final.
