Ubi Franklin

Renowned music executive Ubi Franklin has shared his perspective on Nigeria’s elite Afrobeats acts—Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy—collectively known as the genre’s “Big Three.”

During a recent appearance on the Afropolitan podcast, Franklin highlighted the inherent competition among the trio, suggesting that their dominance in the industry creates a natural rivalry, making collaborations unlikely.

Comparing their dynamic to Nigeria’s top-tier banking sector, he pointed out how industry leaders often compete rather than cooperate. Despite the perceived friction, Franklin emphasized that the artists maintain mutual respect.

“I doubt we’ll see Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy teaming up anytime soon. Speaking from my experience with Davido, I’ve never heard him speak negatively about the others—and I believe the sentiment is shared. The competitive nature of the industry simply doesn’t foster collaboration.”

“Every major industry has its top contenders, just like Nigeria’s leading banks,” he added.
