Kelechi Iheanacho

Celtic boss Martin O’Neill has opened up about the challenges facing Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho, whose playing time has dwindled this campaign.

The Nigerian international has seen limited action since January, raising questions about his role in the squad.

After ending his Sevilla contract early, Iheanacho signed with Celtic last summer, making an immediate impact with three goal contributions in his first four matches.

However, a persistent hamstring issue has disrupted his momentum, limiting his opportunities to shine.

“Honestly, he hasn’t had much game time this season,” O’Neill admitted to Daily Record. “He’s got talent—strong hold-up play—but fitness remains a concern.”

“It’s tough because my priority isn’t keeping everyone happy—it’s fielding the strongest side. Right now, others might be better suited to the demands of this league.”

“I sympathize with him, though. He hasn’t had a fair run to prove himself.”
