The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled five pivotal match protocols for Nigeria’s decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying showdown against Gabon, ensuring clarity on how the outcome will be determined.
Should the match remain level after regulation time, it will advance to extra time, followed by penalties if necessary. Teams can utilize five substitutions in normal time, with a sixth option available if the game extends into extra periods, granting managers tactical adaptability.
VAR technology will also be deployed to review critical incidents such as goals, penalty decisions, red cards, and cases of misidentification, enhancing officiating precision in this high-pressure encounter.
Scheduled as a single-leg semi-final within a centralized playoff tournament hosted in Morocco, this clash marks a crucial step toward World Cup qualification.
