Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has made history by becoming the African artist with the highest-ever monthly listeners on Spotify, eclipsing previous records.
The Grammy-winning musician, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, has now amassed an unprecedented 47.3 million monthly listeners on the streaming platform, overtaking South African sensation Tyla’s previous benchmark of 46.58 million.
With this meteoric rise, Burna Boy is poised to shatter another milestone as the first African act to reach 50 million monthly Spotify listeners. His global hit collaboration with Shakira, “Dai Dai,” has been instrumental in this achievement, recently claiming the top spot on Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart.
This landmark accomplishment makes Burna Boy the first African artist to lead the global chart since Wizkid’s historic 2016 feature on Drake’s chart-topping single “One Dance.”
