Afrobeats sensation Damini Ogulu, better known globally as Burna Boy, has unveiled the intriguing origin of his stage name in a candid discussion with tennis icon Roger Federer.

The acclaimed artist shared how his early obsession with comic book heroes influenced his persona, leading him to craft the fiery moniker that now dominates charts worldwide.

Driven by a vivid imagination, the young Burna Boy sketched original characters, one of which evolved into his musical alter ego with a blazing identity.

He recounted how envisioning himself as a flame-wielding champion from the pages of his own comics sparked the birth of “Burna Boy.”

Reflecting on his creative journey, he revealed: “My childhood was filled with sketching heroes and inventing stories. That’s where Burna Boy was born—I wanted my own comic book legend.”

In another revelation, the Grammy laureate opened up about Fela Kuti’s monumental influence on his artistry, crediting his grandfather for introducing him to the Afrobeat pioneer’s revolutionary sound.

During the same conversation with Federer, Burna Boy described how Fela’s music became the foundation of his artistic evolution, shaping both his sound and message.
