Konga

Renowned artist Konga has asserted that he deserves 60% of the royalties from Burna Boy’s chart-topping track ‘Update’, accusing the Grammy-winning superstar of unauthorized sampling from his original work.

During a candid interview on the Hits Don’t Lie podcast, Konga expressed frustration that Burna Boy ignored his previous attempts to resolve the issue amicably, despite publicly addressing the matter months earlier.

He highlighted the irony that Burna Boy willingly granted Toni Braxton a 60% share of profits from ‘Last Last’ for sampling her track ‘He Wasn’t Man Enough’, yet failed to extend the same courtesy to him.

“Why negotiate with Braxton but disregard me? If she gets 60%, why shouldn’t I? He never even approached me for a conversation,” Konga questioned pointedly.

Despite having legal grounds to pursue action, Konga admitted holding back out of admiration for Burna Boy’s artistry and pride in his role in elevating Afrobeats globally.

The veteran musician also revealed that Burna Boy had incorporated his lyrics in the ‘Sungba’ remix featuring Asake without prior approval.

Frustrated by Burna Boy’s silence after his proposal to collaborate on a ‘Kabakaba’ remix, Konga declared his intention to sample Burna Boy’s music without consent in retaliation.
