
Damini Ogulu, globally celebrated as Burna Boy, shattered records in 2025 by becoming the first African artist to achieve nearly 2 billion streams on Spotify within a single calendar year.
The Grammy-winning artist outperformed fellow African heavyweights, including Wizkid, Tyla, Rema, and Davido, to claim the top spot in Spotify’s annual rankings.
Spotify’s 2025 data reveals Wizkid as the runner-up with 1.81 billion streams, while South Africa’s breakout star Tyla secured third place with 1.67 billion streams.
Completing the top five were Afrobeats sensations Rema (1.63 billion streams) and Davido (1.58 billion streams), demonstrating the global appeal of African music.
The remainder of the top 10 featured Asake (1.52 billion), Ayra Starr (1.47 billion), CKay (1.38 billion), Seyi Vibez (1.32 billion), and Mr Eazi (1.26 billion), showcasing the diversity of African musical talent.
