A 72-year-old Brighton fan has passed away after falling ill during the second half of his team’s Premier League clash with Fulham.

The man, located in the East Stand’s upper tier, was administered prolonged CPR and defibrillation by stadium medics.

Despite efforts from emergency responders and club personnel to revive him, he was pronounced dead following the match, which finished 1-1.

Brighton CEO Paul Barber stated: ‘This was a profoundly tragic conclusion to today’s game, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased supporter.’

‘While our thoughts remain with the gentleman, we recognize the emotional impact on nearby spectators and staff. We will provide necessary support to all those affected in the coming days.’

CPR and defibrillation were performed at the scene after medics determined that moving him to a hospital would reduce his chances of survival.

Club doctor and emergency specialist Dr. Rob Galloway added: ‘My deepest sympathies go out to the man’s family and friends.’

‘Though the outcome was heartbreaking, the medical response was outstanding, and the professionalism of the stewards and Sussex Police ensured the best possible conditions for treatment.’
