Kaybobo

Reality TV star and Ekiti-born basketball enthusiast, Kayode Oladele, widely known as Kaybobo, recently shared how his mother initially opposed his basketball dreams until an influential coach stepped in to persuade her.

The former Big Brother Naija Season 10 housemate disclosed this during an interactive session with the Ekiti State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Ado-Ekiti.

Kaybobo unveiled plans to empower local youths through sports via his newly launched Kaybobo Youth Foundation.

Born and raised in Ado-Ekiti, he revealed how playing basketball for Christ School and All Souls Secondary School became the foundation for his international career.

His passion for youth development inspired him to establish the foundation, aimed at discovering and grooming hidden talents across various fields including sports and entertainment.

“I’m Kayode Oladele, also called Kaybobo,”
he began. “Growing up in Ado-Ekiti, I owe my basketball journey to my coach, Tayo Awojurin. His relentless training and belief in me took me from local courts in Ekiti to global arenas, where I earned academic degrees and built an athletic legacy.”

Now back home, he expressed his commitment to mentoring aspiring athletes, particularly in basketball. “Every Ekiti youth with a basketball dream will get my full backing to turn professional,” he promised.

Highlighting parental support as crucial, Kaybobo reminisced how his mother nearly halted his sports career until Coach Awojurin’s intervention changed her stance. “Without that turning point, I wouldn’t have achieved what I have today,” he admitted.

Beyond sports, the multi-talented star intends to explore fashion, entertainment, and tourism, showcasing Ekiti’s creative potential.

Demonstrating his goodwill, Kaybobo presented customised caps to SWAN members, pledging ongoing collaboration to elevate sports in the state.

In appreciation, SWAN Chairman Qozeem Oladapo lauded the initiative, vowing the association’s full cooperation in supporting Kaybobo’s youth-focused projects.
