Afrobeat icon Wizkid has found himself in hot water after controversial remarks about the legendary Fela Kutu, drawing sharp criticism from veteran musician Baba Fryo.
The dispute began when Seun Kuti, son of the Afrobeat pioneer, rebuked Wizkid’s fans for equating him with Fela, labeling such comparisons as disrespectful to his father’s monumental influence.
In a defiant response, Wizkid took to social media with provocative claims, insisting he had eclipsed Fela’s legacy while dismissing Seun with biting sarcasm.
“Pu**y boy @thenigbirdkuti okay, I superior pass your papa!! Wetin you go do? Olodo at 40!,” he fired off.

Baba Fryo didn’t hold back in his response, expressing disappointment in younger artists undermining Fela’s unmatched legacy. “See wetin our youth dey talk now. How person go compare small pikin to elder? Fela na legend—musician, activist, icon.
“Him career last 30+ years, no dulling. These Gen Z no get sense at all.”
Drawing parallels, he added, “Jamaican artist no go disrespect Bob Marley like this. Naija youth no dey think at all. Dis one na pure embarrassment.”
The clash has sparked fresh debates about legacy preservation, generational respect, and whether contemporary artists truly grasp the giants whose shoulders they stand on.
