Nene Aderibigbe, mother of Afrobeat sensation Oyinkansola Aderibigbe (better known as Ayra Starr), has taken a grassroots approach to promote her daughter’s highly anticipated album “Starr Girl,” set to debut on August 14.
The devoted parent, famously called Genzmummy by fans, led an eye-catching promotional stunt featuring herself, Ayra’s sister, and a group of supporters clad in matching black outfits and vibrant purple headwraps, waving customized banners to generate buzz.
Their campaign not only highlighted the release date but also included powerful affirmations to invoke divine success for the musical project.
This innovative marketing push comes ahead of the album’s official release, marking Ayra Starr’s third major project after her 2021 debut “19 & Dangerous” and her sophomore album “The Year I Turned 21,” launched in May 2024.
Born in Benin Republic and raised in Lagos, Ayra Starr skyrocketed to fame after joining Mavin Records and dropping her breakout EP in 2021.
Her global breakthrough was cemented when her hit single “Rush” earned a Grammy nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Grammy Awards, solidifying her status as a leading figure in modern Afrobeats.
