Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has greenlit a comprehensive re-examination of late Afrobeat artist Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba’s (Mohbad) untimely demise following an official request from the musician’s family.

The Aloba family, represented by their legal counsel Oladayo Ogungbe, confirmed this development in a September 29, 2026 press release, emphasizing that the renewed police inquiry remains active despite recent legal proceedings.

The family’s formal appeal, submitted to police authorities on April 14, 2026 and officially received at Force Headquarters on May 7, highlighted numerous discrepancies in the initial investigation while demanding a complete forensic analysis of circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.

Legal representatives confirmed the IGP’s approval transferred the case to Lagos State Police Command, where specialized officers from the Special Enquiry Bureau have since assumed investigative responsibilities.

“Our client has maintained close collaboration with investigators, providing all requested materials while monitoring progress,” Ogungbe stated, noting the family’s ongoing participation in the investigative process.

This clarification followed September 25’s court dismissal of an unrelated lawsuit (FHC/ABJ/CS/363/2026), which the family stressed held no connection to their official petition nor reflected their position regarding the police investigation.

The Aloba family emphasized their commitment to a thorough, impartial investigation while discouraging public confusion between judicial and investigative processes. They pledged continued cooperation, offering additional evidence, documentation and witness testimony as needed.

“We seek neither predetermined conclusions nor media sensationalism, but rather a professional, transparent inquiry that definitively establishes the truth,” the statement continued, reaffirming confidence in the ongoing re-investigation.

Concluding their announcement, the family reiterated their active engagement with authorities and unwavering dedication to achieving justice for the departed music star.
