The legal representatives of Ilerioluwa Aloba’s family, widely recognized as Mohbad, have raised doubts about the suitability of some laboratories appointed for the highly publicized paternity test of his son, Liam.
Reports from Punch Metro reveal that the family’s attorney, Oladayo Ogungbe, acting on behalf of Joseph Aloba, issued an official statement on Tuesday detailing these concerns.
Ogungbe confirmed that a court ruling on February 24, 2026, mandated the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test to be performed at three independent laboratories—selected through mutual agreement—to uphold integrity and impartiality.
The approved facilities include:
- DNA Diagnostics Centre in Fairfield, Ohio, USA (proposed by the applicant)
- Alpha Biolabs in Warrington, UK (nominated by the respondent)
- Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited in London, UK (appointed by the court via the Social Welfare Officer)
The legal team reportedly conducted background checks on the laboratories to confirm their technical expertise before proceeding with sample collection. However, responses from two institutions indicated their inability to perform post-mortem DNA analysis on embalmed remains.
“Our inquiries revealed that neither Alpha Biolabs nor Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited have the capability to conduct DNA testing involving preserved tissue samples from an embalmed body,” the statement read.
This development was subsequently communicated to the court through an official affidavit, as noted by Ogungbe.
The family’s lawyer also refuted allegations that Joseph Aloba intentionally chose incompetent laboratories, emphasizing that only one of the three was his client’s selection.
“Any claims suggesting Mr. Aloba manipulated the lab selection process are baseless. His sole objective remains ensuring a truthful and scientifically rigorous DNA procedure in adherence to the court’s orders,” the statement clarified.
The Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu previously ordered the DNA test to resolve the ongoing paternity dispute surrounding Liam Aloba, Mohbad’s sole heir. Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga approved the motion filed by Joseph Aloba, seeking biological confirmation of the child’s lineage.
Mohbad, a burgeoning Afrobeats talent, passed away in September 2023 under contentious circumstances. His death sparked national outcry, leading to legal battles over his estate, royalties, and unresolved questions about his son’s paternity.
Liam was born in April 2023, just five months before his father’s untimely demise. The controversy has since captivated public discourse, drawing intense scrutiny from fans and legal observers alike.
