Nafiu Bala, the interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has addressed rumors regarding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
He clarified that reports of discussions between them are false.
Bala also reiterated that Atiku is not affiliated with the ADC.
Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, Bala stated: “These claims are baseless, and I don’t know their origin. Atiku Abubakar is not an ADC member, so why would I engage with him about the party? As acting National Chairman, I wouldn’t discuss ADC matters with outsiders.
“Atiku remains a PDP member. I have no knowledge of his involvement with ADC. Our party is united, and we recently conducted elections in Bauchi State under the North East zone.”
The former Deputy National Chairman confirmed he has taken over ADC leadership following Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu’s resignation, in line with the party’s constitution.
He vowed to prevent external forces from undermining the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bala accused infiltrators from PDP, APC, LP, and APGA of attempting to destabilize the ADC, claiming some individuals falsely present themselves as leaders after being appointed by Nwosu—an act he called unconstitutional.
“Currently, I am the legitimate acting National Chairman of ADC and have assumed office. I oversee the party’s structure at all levels, adhering to our constitution,” he asserted.
He advised those claiming leadership to properly register at their wards and renounce ties with other parties before engaging in ADC affairs.
Regarding his alleged expulsion in Gombe State, Bala dismissed it as fabricated, citing recent endorsements from local stakeholders reaffirming his membership.
He further alleged APC and federal government-backed efforts to disrupt the ADC, similar to tactics used against other parties.
Bala confirmed notifying INEC of the leadership transition and urged members to stay alert in safeguarding the ADC’s future.
