Nigeria’s Super Eagles have begun their journey toward AFCON 2025 glory, with 10 players already reporting to camp in Cairo as of Sunday. The national team’s preparations are in full swing ahead of the continental showdown in Morocco.
The Renaissance Hotel in Egypt’s capital welcomed the squad, with technical staff and backroom personnel already stationed. Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, making a much-anticipated return to international duty, was the first to arrive shortly after 2 a.m. local time.
He was quickly joined by fellow goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, midfielders Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, as well as defenders Semi Ajayi, Igho Ogbu, and Bright Osayi-Samuel. Forward Ademola Lookman and rising stars Amas Obasogie and Tochukwu Nnadi further bolstered the squad in camp.
Head coach Eric Chelle is still awaiting the arrival of additional players ahead of Nigeria’s first training session later today. The team will also fine-tune its strategy in a high-profile friendly clash against Egypt’s Pharaohs on Tuesday at Cairo International Stadium.
Runners-up in the last edition, the Super Eagles are determined to reclaim Africa’s top prize for the first time since 2013. With a rich history that includes victories in 1980, 1994, and 2013, Nigeria remains one of the tournament’s most formidable contenders.
The 2025 AFCON will unfold in Morocco from December 21 to January 18, 2026, setting the stage for another thrilling chapter in African football.
