Global boxing icon Anthony Joshua is honoring his pledge to assist the families of two close companions tragically lost in a car accident during their time with him in Nigeria.
In a heartfelt Mother’s Day celebration, an emotional Joshua paid homage to his departed “brothers,” Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, spending the day with their bereaved families.
The fatal incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at approximately 11 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, while Joshua was traveling with his friends.
Joshua, 36, sustained only minor injuries in the crash and was hospitalized before being discharged on New Year’s Day.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver of the vehicle, has faced court charges including causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, operating a vehicle without due care, and driving without a valid license.
Since the tragedy, Joshua has maintained a notably low public profile.
This weekend, however, he joined his own family and the families of Sina and Latif for a Mother’s Day gathering, creating a moment of unity and remembrance.

A moving video from the event captures Joshua sharing laughter and dancing with loved ones of Sina and Latif, offering a glimpse of joy amidst sorrow.
During the gathering, Joshua voiced a poignant tribute to his fallen friends, expressing that his “heart” remains with them.
“I’m grateful we can gather under one roof to celebrate our mothers, our brothers, those no longer with us, and those still here—knowing that one day we all face the same fate,” Joshua shared, visibly holding back tears.
“We stay resilient until that day comes. We pray for our journey and for greatness in the afterlife.”
“I mention this because my heart is with my brothers right now.”
Joshua extended thanks to the mothers of Sina and Latif for blessing him with years of unwavering friendship and global adventures alongside their sons.
“Today is for my mum, for our family, and also for Sina’s mum, Latz’s mum—everything is connected,” he added.
“I might not be making perfect sense; I’m speaking sincerely from my heart.”
“So thank you, mothers, for giving me Latz and Sina all these years—for watching over me. I am deeply grateful.”
