Algeria staged a dramatic comeback to overcome Jordan 2-1 in a thrilling World Cup Group J clash on Monday, ending the Asian newcomers’ hopes in the tournament.

Jordan initially took the lead through Nizar al-Rashdan, but Amine Gouiri equalized before Nadhir Benbouali sealed the victory for Algeria with an 82nd-minute strike in Santa Clara.

The win keeps Algeria in contention for the knockout stage, with a crucial match against Austria in Kansas City on Saturday determining their fate. Both teams are tied with three points each in the group.

Argentina currently leads Group J with six points after Austria fell 2-0 to the South American giants earlier on Monday.

Jordan, exiting the tournament without a win, will conclude their World Cup journey against Argentina in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday.
