Ex-Super Eagles shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi has weighed in on the disputed goal netted by Calvin Bassey against South Africa, according to DAILY POST.

Bassey’s header, which equalized in Nigeria’s 1-1 stalemate with Bafana Bafana at Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein, on Tuesday, continues to be a talking point for analysts and fans.

The Fulham defender connected with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s pinpoint cross just before half-time, but the ball appeared to brush his hand before crossing the line.

The goal was upheld despite protests from South African players, with no VAR available to review the incident.

Akpeyi stated that the referee had a tough angle to spot the potential handball.

“From the referee’s position behind the play, he couldn’t clearly see the action, and he was also some distance away,”
Akpeyi remarked post-match.
