Nigerian music producer and industry powerhouse Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, has challenged conventional thinking by arguing that wisdom doesn’t necessarily correlate with age.
In a thought-provoking take, he emphasized that many individuals rely on outdated experiences, mistaking longevity for true wisdom.
The veteran producer, now 50, asserted that competence and adaptability—not just time—should measure one’s wisdom.
During a candid conversation on The Clarity Zone podcast, Cabasa made it clear he wasn’t dismissing the intelligence of older individuals but stressed that age alone shouldn’t dictate perceived wisdom.
“The idea that aging automatically equals wisdom is a myth. It’s not about whether older people are smart—many are—but about whether their knowledge remains relevant,” he stated.
“People often confuse experience with competence. Many of the lessons they hold onto are no longer applicable in today’s fast-changing world.”
He further elaborated, “Growth is what makes wisdom possible with age, not just the passage of time. If you’re merely aging without evolving, your so-called wisdom may be obsolete.”
“We’re in an era where digital natives operate at a different pace. Demanding respect solely based on age, without adapting to new realities, can be counterproductive,” Cabasa concluded.
