Nollywood star Sarah Martins has opened up about her decision to step away from organized church services, despite maintaining her Christian faith.
The actress disclosed that while she was once deeply involved in church life, she came to understand that mere attendance doesn’t equate to divine approval.
Speaking to The PUNCH, Martins shared that her withdrawal from church gatherings stemmed from enduring persistent inappropriate behavior from pastors at multiple congregations.
This unsettling pattern prompted her to cultivate a more intimate spiritual practice, vowing to honor God through her daily actions and personal devotion.
She now channels her faith into philanthropic efforts and private worship, which she credits with manifesting blessings in her life.
“I’m far from an atheist—I’m a devoted Christian. Though I left the pews behind, I didn’t abandon my faith. Church attendance alone never earned anyone God’s grace; true spirituality shines through one’s private life and choices.
“I encountered the same troubling scenario everywhere: pastors crossing lines. That’s when I walked away. My faith transformed—it’s now between me and God, lived out through integrity and service.
“And here’s the beautiful part: When I pray now, I’m heard. The church doors may be closed to me, but my connection to God has never been stronger—nurtured through quiet moments and acts of kindness.”
