Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing recently shared shocking details about her early career struggles, revealing how she turned down a controversial role that could have derailed her fame.
During an engaging interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, she disclosed that one of her biggest hurdles was receiving bizarre scripts—including one that required her to perform an inappropriate scene with an animal.
She explained,
“I was just starting out when they handed me a script where I had to sleep with a dog. That was a hard no for me—no way I’d let that be my introduction to the industry. Imagine your first film defining you as ‘the actress who did that scene’! I knew it would haunt my reputation forever.
“As soon as I walked away, other actresses rushed for the role. Funny enough, none of them became household names,” she added.
The actress went on to share how destiny intervened after she rejected the questionable role. She met acclaimed director Emeka Duru, who later cast her in her breakthrough film, ‘Through The Fire,’ produced by Imem Isong.
My first script demanded I sleep with a dog. I said no, and that decision changed my career. Others took it—but where are they now?
