Popular Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia has opened up about how fellow actress Mercy Johnson intervened when her former husband allegedly made life-threatening statements towards her.
The revelation came during an exclusive sit-down with renowned media personality Chude Jideonwo, where Etinosa shared harrowing details of the ordeal.
The movie star recounted how death threats began pouring in from her first husband after she publicly spoke about experiencing domestic abuse during their marriage.
In her emotional account, Etinosa revealed that Mercy Johnson played a pivotal role in escalating the matter to Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff for intervention.
The Edo-born actress explained, “After giving what I thought was a routine interview about my movie ‘Stormy Heart’, media outlets sensationalized my personal revelations about my marriage. At that early stage of my career, I lacked media training on how to handle sensitive questions professionally.
“The interview questions drifted to relationships, and I naively shared that one relationship nearly cost me my life – referencing my ex-husband. I never anticipated how the media would spotlight only that personal aspect while ignoring the movie promotion entirely.
“When my ex-husband saw the reports, he became livid, accusing me of trying to destroy his military career. The threats escalated to the point where I had to publicly cry out on Instagram. Among those who responded was Mercy Johnson, who used her military connections to ensure my safety by reporting the matter to the highest naval authorities.”
Etinosa’s first marriage to military officer Babatunde Solomon dissolved between 2017-2018, while her subsequent union with Benin-based lawyer Ighorosa ended in 2021 shortly after welcoming their first child together.
