Popular Nigerian filmmaker and actor Stanley Amandi has been apprehended alongside military personnel for allegedly conspiring to forcefully remove President Bola Tinubu from office.
Reports from investigative sources indicate that Amandi, a seasoned industry veteran and former leader of Actors Guild of Nigeria’s Enugu chapter, was detained in September 2025—though details of his arrest remained undisclosed until now.
Security insiders allege the award-winning director played a key role as a propagandist in the foiled conspiracy, which reportedly aimed to seize power through violent means.
According to confidential briefings, the alleged plotters had developed plans to eliminate high-profile government figures including Vice President Kashim Shettima, legislative leaders, and other senior officials.
Military authorities confirmed Monday that an extensive inquiry had exposed the unconstitutional plot, with implicated service members facing trial before military tribunals.
An official statement described the investigation as thorough and conducted according to military protocols, noting the findings had been escalated to higher command.
“Several officers have been identified as allegedly participating in subversive activities contrary to the values and conduct expected of Nigerian Armed Forces personnel,” the military disclosed.
While initial reports last October mentioned only 16 military personnel under investigation, subsequent inquiries reportedly expanded to include additional suspects—both in uniform and civilians like Amandi.
Legal proceedings will follow parallel tracks, with military defendants facing court-martial while civilian co-conspirators stand trial in federal courts.
Amandi boasts an extensive filmography spanning multiple roles including directing the acclaimed “Cornerstone” (2019) and performing in recent productions like “Once Upon a Dream” from 2024.
The filmmaker’s social media presence ceased abruptly after his final Instagram update on September 19, 2025, coinciding with his reported detention.
