NFF Chairman Shehu Dikko has revealed that Nigeria’s hopes for the 2026 World Cup now depend entirely on FIFA’s decision regarding the controversial qualification match.
The Nigerian football authorities formally contested DR Congo’s victory, arguing that their opponents violated player eligibility rules in the crucial final qualifying round.
Addressing reporters after a high-level meeting with President Bola Tinubu, Dikko confirmed that the case remains under review.
He stated: “While our competitive campaign appears concluded, the judicial process continues. FIFA’s disciplinary committee must render its verdict.”
Dikko maintained cautious optimism about the Super Eagles potentially securing a last-minute reprieve for March’s intercontinental playoffs.
