Migrant Rescue Watch has confirmed the return of 162 Nigerian nationals, comprising women and children, from Libya.
In a Tuesday statement, the organization revealed that the Libyan Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM), alongside the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), assisted in their voluntary repatriation through Misrata International Airport.
“DCIM, supported by IOM, facilitated the return of 162 #migrants, including women and children of Nigerian origin, via Misrata International Airport,” it stated.
This initiative is part of continuous efforts to ensure the safe return of stranded migrants in Libya.
Many repatriated individuals had endured human trafficking, forced labor, or became marooned following unsuccessful Mediterranean crossings.
The Nigerian government, collaborating with global agencies, has sustained repatriation programs, bringing thousands of citizens home from Libya and other North African nations where they faced harsh conditions.
